Acquiring a vt.edu Subdomain
Subdomains are created only for university departments, official graduate degree programs, and some well-known central services of the university. Central services are major services that are generally managed by the computing center such as mail.vt.edu, outlook.vt.edu, exchange.vt.edu, etc. General guidelines:
- Subdomains are not created for individuals, projects, or programs. These are named in their corresponding departmental sub-domain.
- Departments are allowed six months to make a subdomain change when the department is renamed.
- Only Network Liaisons may request new subdomains of both hostmaster and hosting.
- If it is not clearly in one of these categories, the request may be reviewed by Web Communications.
To request a subdomain, or simply get more information, contact the Virginia Tech hostmaster.
