Federal and state regulations require that a statement of the university's policy relating to nondiscrimination be included in publications for recruitment and for general publications. To assist colleges, departments, and other offices of the university in meeting these requirements, the following statements have been prepared for use.
1. The following longer version of the policy statement should be used on publications that are representative of the total university and where space is seldom a consideration. Examples of such publications include the Undergraduate and Graduate Catalogs, University Policies for Student Life, Financial Aid for Students, Transferring Information for Community College Students, Faculty Handbook, Annual Report of the President, and other publications of a recruiting or general information nature:
Virginia Tech does not discriminate against employees, students, or applicants for admission or employment on the basis of race, gender, disability, age, veteran status, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, or political affiliation. Anyone having questions concerning discrimination should contact the Office for Equity and Inclusion.
2. Where space is extremely limited, such as on the Facts Card, this short version can be used:
An Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Institution
3. The following statements should be used on position advertisements for faculty positions.
Virginia Tech has a strong commitment to the principle of diversity and, in that spirit, seeks a broad spectrum of candidates including women, minorities, and people with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities desiring accommodations in the application process should notify (name, department, phone number, and TTY number) by the application deadline.
4. Virginia Tech's Extension Division must meet additional guidelines from the U. S. Department of Agriculture. For further information, contact the Office of Cooperative Extension, 231-6708.
Use of these policy statements has been mandatory for some time, and every effort should be made to assure their continued use. If the appropriate statement has been omitted from a publication, inserts containing the statement should be made. Each department and division that issues publications is responsible to ensure that the statements are included in publications.
