Video: Fin research investigates underwater propulsion

Fish fins have a blend of rigidity and flexibility that allows fish to move through water in ways that vehicles with propellers are not able to move. Michael Philen, associate professor in the College of Engineering, and his research team are investigating the possibility of using synthetic fins to give vehicles the same versatility of motion that fish have.
