The Vocal Arts and Music Festival at Virginia Tech hosted an evening of Italian opera and song on Thursday, June 21, 2012.
The festival, presented by the Center for the Arts at Virginia Tech, runs until June 29 and features the voices of the opera world’s young professionals. Tickets are still available for the remaining performances.
The professionals audition to participate in the festival and are selected by International Vocal Arts Institute founders Joan Dornemann, assistant conductor of the Metropolitan Opera, and Paul Nadler, conductor of the Metropolitan Opera, who select the best for three international festivals. One festival is in Tel Aviv, Israel; one in Montreal; and one is in Blacksburg, Va. on June 16-29, 2012.
The singers work hard from morning to afternoon on vocalization, language, staging, and more. Every evening, festivalgoers are treated to insightful master classes by the top voice teachers and world-class performances featuring the professional singers and internationally renowned musicians.
