Video: Chibale Project

Virginia Tech, Radford University, and North Carolina A&T have partnered in a study abroad program in Malawi for several years. Together, they have created the Chibale Project.  Chibale means "relationship"in Chichewe, one of the languages spoken in Malawi. The project provides scholarships for students for secondary school, improves the lives of adolescent girls who often drop out at puberty, and includes this feeding program three times a week at Malemia Primary School.

Children share the excitement of being on a bus with Virginia Tech sophomore Becca FitzGerald.

Virginia Tech students, staff, and faculty members traveled to Africa in summer 2010 to teach in Malawi schools for a month. The Virginia Tech group learned firsthand about the culture and the education and took side trips to learn about sustainable agriculture practices, health issues, and cultural history.
